420 Fun in the Finger Lakes

This year, April 20 is an extra special day in the Finger Lakes Region. Not only do we get to celebrate cannabis culture, but some major milestones that businesses made in the past year. Plus, there are a couple local recreational dispensaries hosting 420 events.

Currently, there are more than 100 legal adult-use dispensaries open across the state – 107 to be exact – according to the New York Office of Cannabis Management. After a rocky start, the Finger Lakes Region saw the opening of several recreational dispensaries. A few are observing their first 420 with a myriad of activities.

Customers can enjoy music, food and more while stocking up on their favorite brands at Just Breathe Finger Lakes in Tyre. The dispensary is hosting a 420 Celebration Weekend at 2981 Auburn Road. On Friday, Technicolor Trailor Park will provide live entertainment from 5 to 7 p.m. On Saturday, Bearded Bear BBQ food truck will be parked outside while Just Joe and Ted Kelly (aka Pspot) will perform on the inside stage.

“I couldn’t be happier to be open for 420 and to celebrate it with friends and family,” Dennis said. The dispensary officially opened at the end of March.

Just Breathe Finger Lakes’ celebration extends through the rest of the month. The Seneca Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, April 24.

Sweet Grass Dispensary will have a 4/20 Bash from 12 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Lakeside Trading, 299 Cayuga Street in Union Springs. The 21-and-over event will include music, food, a consumption area, bud bar, raffles and giveaways. The entertainment lineup features Josh and Cody from Krock, who will perform 12 to 1 p.m.; Live Coco Puffs from Krock Show from 1 to 3 p.m.; and a live broadcast by The Wall from 3 to 5 p.m. There is no admission cost. No alcohol is allowed.

Meanwhile, in Geneva, High Points Dispensary at 811 Canandaigua Road will offer promotions in honor of 420 on Friday and Saturday. A few vendors will be present to talk to customers and provide swag items.

Celebrations at Aspire in Ithaca began a little early, as vendors were present at the store on Wednesday. On April 20, the dispensary, located at 205 North Fulton Street, will offer in-store promotions. Angela Bishop, manager of Aspire, is grateful to celebrate 420 with an open storefront; the dispensary opened for business on March 25.

“It (420) is s a window of opportunity to showcase what our mission and vision is for the community,” said Bishop. “Our cannabis dispensary can have a positive impact on the community.”
